Codes Of Conduct | Implementing codes of conduct to set standards for acceptable behaviour.

Online games are social spaces where players interact with each other. To ensure a fun, fair, and safe gaming experience for everyone, there are codes of conduct that players have to follow.

These codes of conduct set the rules and expectations for online behaviour, such as being respectful, polite, and honest. They also protect players from harmful or inappropriate actions, such as cheating, hacking, or harassing.

Players who break the codes of conduct may face consequences, such as losing their game account or facing legal action. By following the codes of conduct, players can enjoy online games and be part of a positive gaming community.

You can see below a range of Code of Conducts from our members.

Activision Blizzard

The first step to a universally great game experience for everyone is a clear set of rules, communicated consistently.

Here’s what Activision Blizzard is doing:

Activision observes a franchise-wide Code of Conduct for Call of Duty focused on three core pillars: treat everyone with respect, compete with integrity, and stay vigilant. This new policy is bolstered by an increase in reporting and enforcement to protect a fair, fun, and safe gameplay experience. Players are required to acknowledge the Call of Duty Code of Conduct in order to play multiplayer modes. Further, the Call of Duty Security and Enforcement Policy clearly states that any player who is found to use aggressive, offensive, derogatory, or culturally charged language will be penalized. Cyber-bullying and other forms of harassment are classified as extreme offenses and result in the harshest penalties.

Blizzard’s in-game Code of Conduct includes specific policies for communication (e.g. appropriate language is required), naming (e.g. offensive names are barred), cheating (zero tolerance), and behaviour (nothing that detracts from others’ experience). When players first log in to World of Warcraft, they will be greeted by a Social Contract that outlines both positive and unacceptable behaviour and must be read and accepted before a player can continue into the world of Azeroth.

King’s Code of Conduct bars harassment, hate speech, and objectionable communication, behaviour that infringes on others’ privacy, and more.
