IGEA Education Summit 2022

Welcome to the third annual IGEA Educates Summit. Following two successful years of conversation between educators and the Australian games industry, this year will feature two days’ worth of high-quality panels and workshops across the 18th-19th of July with the focus on Developing Talent.
Australia’s game industry is set to grow even larger this year, with the assistance of the Federal Digital Games Tax Offset, Screen Australia’s Expansion Pack funding, and a range of state-based initiatives. If these initiates are the car, talent is the fuel that moves it – and it is in high demand.
We want to show ways in which the industry can develop talent to make sure it keeps flowing: While educators need to be prepared for a changing climate and an influx of learners, the games sector not only needs to assist it in moulding the next generation of game developers but also consider practice in other industries to build talent from within.
With the addition of a second day of our IGEA Educates Summit, we have the space to bring in a third voice of the conversation, the students we educate.
GCAP Loading will take place as part of the Educates Summit, to provide a more direct conversation between the educators and the students, and help to identify education gaps. It also provides a more accessible time of year, with GCAP frequently overlapping with student exams.
There will also be a live portfolio review for participating students, as well as a third day of private portfolio reviews by industry professionals putting you right in touch with leading studios. We are excited to welcome you all back virtually, with the Summit being delivered via Tulula. Tickets will remain free this year. Please note this summit is only for those in the game developer industry and students.
