IGEA Educates Week 2024

July 15 @ 1:00 pm - July 19 @ 2:00 pm

The IGEA Educates Summit returns in 2024!

Join us in the week of 15 July for a whole week of lunch time talks! Every day at 1pm, you get to engage with an hour-long webinar.

This is an unmissable event for any tertiary student who wants to break into the games industry.

The focus of this year’s event is on “human skills.” What are the attitudes and mindsets the Australian games industry wants to see from junior talent?

The week will kick off with Gameloft’s Matt Peers talk on Agile Thinking and a “Fail Fast” Approach, i.e., the ability to rapidly prototype, iterate on design ideas and objectively discuss what aspects of the process could be improved or did not go to plan.

On Tuesday (16 July), Myles Blasonato from Blowfish will dive into problem-solving and showing initiative which is all about displaying a clear ability to approach challenges creatively and independently.

Games are a collaborative effort and communication is key! PlaySide Studios will cover the crucial nature of the willingness and ability to work effectively within a team on Wednesday (17 July).

Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it will get you into the games industry. On Thursday (18 July), Luke Ledwich and Leigh Harris from Riot will elaborate on the importance of showing curiosity and a growth mindset by engaging in personal projects or exploring new technologies.

Lastly, for any students based in Melbourne, PlaySide will open its doors for an exclusive student studio tour! Hear from Australia’s largest studio how they approach the talent pipeline, how to prepare your portfolio, and how you can best network yourself into the sector.

Places will be limited, so get in quickly.
