According to Newzoo, which provides data for digital and mobile game sales, consumer revenue growth was driven by strong performance across the release slate, from major AAA titles through to smaller independent releases.
Looking ahead, Newzoo said that total games revenues in Australia are expected to grow at a 4.8% CAGR between 2025 and 2028, broadly tracking global growth expectations.
Game Sales Data (GSD), provide traditional retail data and stated that 2025 marked one of the strongest years on record for the Australian video games industry across all GSD tracked categories. Spending growth was driven by the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, alongside a strong lineup of new software releases across both physical and digital storefronts across all platforms.
In an environment of challenging economic times, the power of games prevails with Australians turning to games for fun, connection and relaxation, reinforcing the industry’s important role in everyday life.
