The Interactive Games & Entertainment Association (IGEA) proudly highlights the achievements of Australia’s video games industry in its latest publication. Australians not only enjoy playing video games but also excel in creating them, earning a stellar global reputation for producing high-quality, creative, and unique gaming experiences for an international audience.

Currently, Australia benefits from unprecedented federal and state government support for this creative industry, a fact for which IGEA and the industry are deeply grateful. However, now is not the time to rest on our laurels. We must continue striving to ensure Australia remains a formidable player in the global video games industry.

IGEA’s policy platform document outlines the keys to the success of the Australian games industry, emphasizing:

  • The importance of a domestic market operating under fit-for-purpose legal and regulatory frameworks, built on best regulatory practices and sound public policy design.
  • A vibrant, diverse, and growing local games development industry, comprising an ecosystem of both independent home-grown studios and high-investment international studios.
  • The need for further government assistance across the ecosystem, enabling Australian creators to catch up and benefit from business training and skills-building initiatives, similar to the support provided to other screen content creators.
