IGEA Update on The Arcade

The Arcade is a collaborative working space in South Melbourne and home to a cluster of vibrant video game development businesses.  Many leading Australian development studios, alongside individual creators and practitioners, have been an integral part of The Arcade’s community since 2013.

Initially established by the GDAA,  The Arcade is now owned and managed by IGEA and has always been supported and promoted by the Victorian state government.  Unfortunately, the lease for The Arcade at its current address is ending as the building is to be re-purposed by the lessor. Sadly,  IGEA and the current tenants will have to leave the building by mid-February 2022.

IGEA is working very closely and collaboratively with our Victorian government stakeholders to source an alternative space to meet the needs of the local independent development sector to continue supporting emerging, early career and diverse creators alongside more established game development studios. Given the changing office rental landscape, we are unlikely to be in a position to commit to new premises as the current lease finishes.

While not ideal, The Arcade will be on hiatus until a fit for purpose space is found. IGEA is committed to ensuring that game developers can continue to thrive and connect with each other. Most importantly, that we continue to deliver programs to meet the current and future needs of the sector.

The current residents and program recipients at The Arcade will remain connected virtually, and where possible, physically for events and specific programs.

IGEA will keep all residents and stakeholders informed as the process evolves, and it is business as usual for the entire IGEA team. If you have any inquiries, please direct them to ron@igea.net
