Digital Australia 2022 (DA22) – Connected by Games

Digital Australia (DA22) is the latest in a research series spanning 16 years that IGEA has undertaken in conjunction with Bond University. The research provides empirical data on who plays video games, how they play, why they play, and attitudes toward video games in Australia.

In this iteration of the research, we explore the theme Connected by Games and present how video games served as a vital source of connection during the pandemic crisis of 2020 and 2021. Confronted with lockdowns, loss of work, disruption to routines, and separation from family and friends, people all over the world turned to games more than ever before during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

DA22 highlights that games play an important, positive role in the lives of many Australians, and even more so during periods of isolation and lockdowns.  Games provided entertainment, a way to pass the time, coping mechanisms and a social connection to friends and family. We were Connected by Games.
