Submission to the Australian Government on the Digital Platforms Inquiry

IGEA has made a submission to the Australian Government on its consultation on the final report of the ACCC Digital Platforms Inquiry.

Our submission highlights the fact that the video games industry was not needed to be examined during the Digital Platforms Inquiry and was not addressed in the final report. The video games industry in Australia and around the world remains a highly competitive sector at all levels of the product chain, which we believe has benefited both small businesses and consumers, and has not experienced the kinds of supposed competition issues that were the subject of the Inquiry.

Nevertheless, IGEA has chosen to make a submission to the consultation given the wide scope of the ACCC’s recommendations and we have responded specifically to the recommendations on mergers, harmonising media regulation, improving and teaching digital literacy and privacy reform.
